Bring a recording

Choose MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG or AIFF audio, or MP4, MOV, WebM, M4V, AVI, WMV, MKV or FLV video. This local page accepts files up to 100 MB and 120 seconds. The browser must support the codec inside the file; video audio is captured as it plays, in real time.

02 / METHOD

Follow one clear line

Fieldnote decodes audio on your device, then tracks fundamentals from roughly 65–1,000 Hz (C2–B5) with a lightweight autocorrelation method. It writes a standard MIDI file with note names and timing. No media is sent to a server.

03 / EXPECTATIONS

A useful first draft

Results are strongest for a clean, single-note melody. Chords, drums, overlapping instruments, heavy effects and noisy recordings can confuse pitch tracking. This is a monophonic transcription sketch, not a studio-grade arrangement.

FAQ / 01

Can I convert MP4 to MIDI?

Yes. Select an MP4, MOV, WebM or M4V video with an audio track. The video is played locally so its audio can be analyzed; a 20-second clip takes at least 20 seconds to process.

FAQ / 02

What about YouTube to MIDI?

This page converts files you have on your device. It does not fetch YouTube links. If you have permission to use a recording, choose its audio or video file here.
